The Board of Trustees of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), chaired by General Dr. Boonsrang Niumpradit, held its second meeting of 2026 on 20 August 2026 at the AIT Conference Center. The meeting brought together Trustees representing governments, academia, industry, alumni, and international organizations.
The meeting commenced with the Board acting on the recommendation of its Nominating Committee and appointing five new Trustees, who joined the meeting thereafter. The newly appointed Trustees are H.E. Mr. Andalib Elias, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Thailand; H.E. Mr. Puneet Agrawal, Ambassador of India to Thailand, represented by Ms. Kajal Gupta; H.E. Mr. Hari Prabowo, Ambassador of Indonesia to Thailand; H.E. Datuk Wan Zaidi Wan Abdullah, Ambassador of Malaysia to Thailand; and H.E. Ms. Saadia Altaf Qazi, Ambassador-designate of Pakistan to Thailand. The Board welcomed Mr. Md. Asif Khaled, President of the AIT Student Union, to his first meeting.
The Board appointed Co-Chairs of its Faculty, Staff, and Student Relations Committees, namely, Dr. Prasert Patramai, Ambassador Pradap Pibulsonggram, and Dr. Nalinee Taveesin, respectively.
Dr. Jiraporn Sirikum, Chair of the AIT Executive Committee, updated the Board on matters reviewed by the Committee at its meetings on 22 April and 14 July 2026, covering strategic, governance, academic, financial, institutional development, and administrative matters.
The Board reviewed key institutional, academic, governance, financial, and strategic matters and:
- approved the Strategic Policy on AIT’s Regional Impact Through Higher Education Capacity Building and Strategic Partnerships;
- endorsed stronger outcome-focused reporting on academic quality assurance;
- reviewed progress in implementing the AIT Blueprint, including academic transformation, governance, partnerships, digital transformation, innovation, and AITSPIN;
- approved the FY2026 half-year financial results;
- approved the promotion of four faculty members to full professor: Dr. Indrajit Pal, Dr. Krishna Salin, Dr. Sarawut Ninsawat, and Dr. Wenchao Xue;
- welcomed the proposal to explore a small subcommittee to develop recommendations on the future direction of the AIT Charter; and
- noted the Faculty Relations Committee report and Management’s consideration of an independent review of AIT’s HR policies and practices.
The next meeting of the AIT Board of Trustees will be held on 28 January 2027.
