The Asian Institute of Technology congratulates Dr. Krishna R. Salin, Dr. Indrajit Pal, Dr. Sarawut Ninsawat and Dr. Wenchao Xue on their promotion from Associate Professor to Full Professor, following the approval by the Board of the Trustees at its meeting on 20 August 2026.
Dr. Krishna R. Salin
Dr. Krishna R. Salin joined AIT in August 2014 as an Assistant Professor in Aquaculture and Aquatic Resources Management (AARM), an academic program under the former School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD). He was promoted to Associate Professor in January 2018. He obtained his Ph.D. in Mariculture from the Central Institute of Fisheries Education (Deemed University), Mumbai, India, in 2003. He also earned his Master of Fisheries Science in Aquaculture in 1997 and his Bachelor of Fisheries Science in 1994 from Kerala Agricultural University, India.
Dr. Salin’s research encompasses cleaner aquaculture production systems, applied genetics in aquaculture, stock improvement and
management, aquaculture-environment interactions, innovative hatchery techniques for fish and crustaceans, and climate-smart fisheries and aquaculture production and consumption.
His professional distinctions include the Australian Endeavour Award, the Cutting-Edge Research Enhancement and Scientific Training Award, and the Merit Award of the Asian Fisheries Society. Beyond AIT, he has served as President and elected Director of the World Aquaculture Society-Asia Pacific Chapter, Honorary Director of the Network for the Development of Agricultural Cooperatives in Asia and the Pacific, and as an editor or associate editor for several international journals in aquaculture and fisheries.
At AIT, he chaired the AARM Academic Program and the Doctoral Progress Review Committee and served on the Research Ethics Review Committee.
Dr. Indrajit Pal
Dr. Indrajit Pal joined AIT in December 2014 as an Assistant Professor in Disaster Preparedness, Mitigation and Management (DPMM), originally an interdisciplinary program jointly administered by the former School of Engineering and Technology (SET) and School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD). He was promoted to Associate Professor in November 2021.
He obtained his Ph.D. in Geography and Geology and Geophysics from Vidyasagar University and the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, India, in 2009. He also earned his Master of Arts in Sociology from H.N.B. Garhwal University
in 2011 and his Master of Science in Geology from Jadavpur University in 2001.
Dr. Pal’s research focuses on disaster risk governance and policy, disaster risk reduction and resilience, GIS and remote sensing applications in disaster risk management, climate change adaptation, community-based disaster risk management, critical infrastructure risk, systemic and cascading risks, and public health risk assessment.
His professional distinctions include being named a Fellow of the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies and the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure and serving as a Visiting Professor at Keio University. Beyond AIT, he has served as an adviser to the Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System, a board member of the Global Alliance of Disaster Research Institutes, and a working group member of the Himalayan University Consortium.
At AIT, he chaired the DPMM Academic Program and served on the Faculty Relations Committee and the Doctoral Progress Review Committee.
Dr. Sarawut Ninsawat
Dr. Sarawut Ninsawat was appointed as an Assistant Professor in Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems (RSGIS), an academic program under the former School of Engineering and Technology (SET), in July 2015. He was promoted to Associate Professor in November 2021.
He obtained his Doctor of Creative Cities in Urban Information from Osaka City University, Japan, in 2009. He also earned his Master of Science in Space Technology Applications and Research from AIT in 2002 and his Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from Silpakorn University, Thailand, in 2000.
Dr. Ninsawat’s research encompasses applications of machine learning, remote sensing, and GIS in agriculture and natural resource management, web-mapping applications and frameworks, Open Geospatial Consortium web services, and location-based applications for logistics.
His academic distinctions include receiving the Monbukagakusho Scholarship, a prestigious national scholarship awarded by the Government of Japan, to pursue his doctoral studies at Osaka City University. Beyond AIT, he has served on national committees concerning fundamental geospatial data and disaster management, including committees under Thailand’s National Geo-Informatics Committee and Senate.
He also serves as a Board Member of the Geographic Association of Thailand and is a Charter Member of the Open Source Geospatial Foundation, a global nonprofit organization that advances the development and worldwide adoption of open-source geospatial technologies. He also represents the Foundation’s Thailand Local Chapter.
At AIT, he currently serves as Dean of the Faculty of Advanced Science and Technology. He has also served as Head of the Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) Department and Chair of the RSGIS Program.
Dr. Wenchao Xue
Dr. Wenchao Xue joined AIT in April 2018 as an Assistant Professor in Environmental Engineering and Management (EEM), an academic program under the former School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD). She was promoted to Associate Professor in July 2022.
Dr. Xue obtained her Ph.D. in Urban Engineering from The University of Tokyo, Japan, in 2013. She also earned her Master of Engineering in Environmental Engineering in 2010 and her Bachelor of Engineering in Water Supply and Sewage System Engineering in 2008 from Tsinghua University, China.
Dr. Xue’s research encompasses environmental membrane and electrochemical technologies, resource- and energy-productive wastewater treatment, sustainable watershed environmental management, microplastic pollution in aquatic environments, and the monitoring and elimination of emerging contaminants.
Her professional distinctions include being selected as a UNESCO–The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) Young Affiliate for East and Southeast Asia, a highly selective six-year recognition for outstanding scientists within its global network.
Beyond AIT, she serves as a Senior Advisor to the All-China Environment Federation, Co-Chair of the Chinese Academy of Sciences-supported Digital Belt and Road Task Force on Big Earth Data in Support of the Sustainable Development Goals in Southeast Asia (DBAR-SEA), and Secretary to Thailand’s National Committee for the Digital Belt and Road International Science Program.
At AIT, she is the founding Director of the AIT Belt and Road Research Center, chairs the EEM Academic Program, and has served on the Academic Development and Review Committee and the Sustainable Campus Committee.
