Center on Gender and Forced Displacement (CGFD)

Introduction

The Center on Gender and Forced Displacement (CGFD), founded in 2023, is part of the Gender and Development Studies (GDS) program at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), under the School of Environment, Resources, and Development (SERD). Supported by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), CGFD focuses on addressing the gender dimensions in forced displacement due to conflict, climate change, and political instability, with a primary focus on South and Southeast Asia. The center is committed to promoting gender equality through research, education, and policy reform.

Mission

CGFD addresses gender gaps in forced displacement through research, education, and collaboration, aiming to promote gender equality and foster impactful change in migration and displacement policies across South and Southeast Asia.

Focus Areas

Center Activities

1. Original Research: Conduct interdisciplinary studies on gender and forced displacement, focusing on migration, conflict, and climate change.
2. New Research Frontiers: Investigate emerging intersections of gender, labor migration, and digital governance to address future displacement challenges.
3. Consulting & Outreach: Provide expert consulting and policy support to governments, NGOs, and academic institutions for evidence-based policy development.
4. Capacity Building & Networking: Build research networks and regional capacity through workshops, seminars, conferences, and mentoring programs.
