Public Policy Program (PPP) – Asian Institute of Technology (AIT)

The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) is pleased to announce the Research Fellow for Public Policy and Asian Studies from the August 2026 Intake onward, with support from the Royal Thai Government.

This Research Fellow (Scholarship) is to support outstanding scholars/students pursuing Master’s or Doctoral degrees in the Public Policy Program (PPP) under the Faculty of Public Policy and Sustainable Development (FPSD), AIT.

The Research Fellow Program aims to attract talented individuals interested in conducting research on key public policy areas relevant to sustainable development in Asia.

Areas of Specialization

Applicants to the Public Policy Program may pursue research in the following specialization areas:

  • Digital Governance and AI Policy
  • Environmental and Climate Policy
  • Urban and Infrastructure Development Policy
  • Rural Governance and Development Policy
  • Socio-economic Development Policy

Research Themes

Research Fellows are expected to conduct research in public policy related to one of the following themes:

  • Climate Change
  • Natural Resources
  • Technology
  • Infrastructure
  • Business Management

Applicants should clearly indicate in their application (statement) the policy theme and research area they intend to pursue for their thesis or research work.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Nationality: Open to applicants of any nationality from Asia
  • Degree Level: Master’s or Doctoral programs
  • Academic Background: Applicants from any relevant academic field are welcome to apply
  • Academic Requirements: Applicants must meet AIT’s standard admission requirements, including GPA and English proficiency criteria:
    • Have an outstanding education record in a 4-year Undergraduate Program (applying for Master’s Program) and 2-year Master’s Program (applying for Doctoral Program) from an accredited institution in related fields; GPA of Bachelor’s and Master’s degree ≥ 3.5 or equivalent
    • Two recommendation letters – applicant applying for a doctoral program.
    • Research proposal – applicant applying for a doctoral applicant.
    • Have an English proficiency score as required by AIT Language Center (IELTS 6.0 (Overall and Writing bands) or AIT EET ≥ 6.0).

Coverage

Each scholarship award covers tuition, registration fees, accommodation, and a bursary for living expenses at AIT’s residential campus for the full 22-month duration of the Master’s Program and 41-month (7-semester) duration of the Ph.D. programs. The value of the non-binding Scholarship per student is approximately 1-1.96 million Thai Baht.

Application Procedure

Interested applicants should apply through the AIT online admission portal and select the Public Policy Program (PPP). No separate application to fill out.

Applicants should clearly describe in their statement of purpose the public policy theme and research area they wish to pursue. This can be in a separate file and uploaded to the application portal.

The Public Policy Program (PPP) at AIT prepares future policy leaders, researchers, and practitioners to address complex governance and development challenges through interdisciplinary research and policy innovation.
