Dual Degree Program with University of Wollongong (Australia)
Great opportunity to experience the modern, research intensive university – ranked among the top 2 percent of universities in the world and ranked in the top 100 in Engineering.
AIT’s Telecommunications (TC) program in partnership with the University of Wollongong (UOW), Australia offers Dual Degree Master’s Programme and Dual Doctoral Degree in Telecommunications or Computer Science, giving you two different experiences in Thailand and in Australia besides two degrees.
1.) The International Dual Degree Master’s Programme
A two-year full-time program focuses on relevant advanced technologies in the fields, 1 year at AIT and another 1 year at UOW.
The program provides students with knowledge and skills in fundamentals and applications on wireless networks, signal processing, estimation and detection techniques, Internet of Things (IoT), and Artificial Intelligence (AI) embedded systems.
The solid foundations provided are further strengthened with students’ exposure to the industry environment and ongoing research projects.
Research Focus Areas
5G and beyond wireless communications, Indoor Localization and Tracking, IoT, Medical and Health ICT, Networking, Optimal Radio Frequency Designs, Artificial Intelligence (AI) based Solutions.
Eligibility and Applications
Interested applicants wishing to enter the double degree program must first apply to AIT in Telecommunications or Computer Science program where the applicants are shortlisted after finishing the first semester in AIT.
Students will be qualified for a max 30% tuition fee waiver at UOW if they have Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 75% or above.
Regarding other possible incomes, “International students in Australia on a valid student visa can work for up to 20 hours per week while school is in session, and there is no limit on the number of hours an international student can work during recognized school vacations” (see https://www.vsure.com.au/student-visa-work-rights/ or https://www.internationalstudent.com/study_australia/working/student-visa-rules/ for examples).
A valid (in the last two years) IELTS 6.5 overall and each band 6. Other equivalent English certificates are also accepted.
Note that If students do not meet the minimum English requirement for entry into UOW’s program after successful completion of the first year of Master’s degree in AIT, they may still choose to articulate to UOW and undertake an English language course at UOW through UOW College (see information, including fees, at https://www.uowcollege.edu.au/future-students/international/english-tert-studies/index.html).
2.) The International Dual Doctoral Degree in Telecommunications and Computer Science (2 years at AIT 2 years at UOW)
Eligibility and Applications
Entry requirements of the collaborative program will be a) assessed on an individual basis, and b) the above English requirement.
Students will have co-supervision by 1 supervisor in AIT and 2 supervisors in UOW.
If AIT provides qualified students who can receive a stipend scholarship (usually AUS$25000 or THB542,500 per year, thus AUS$50000 or THB1,085,000 for two years); UOW will provide these students 100% tuition fee waiver in UOW.
School of Electrical, Computer, and Telecommunications Engineering (SECTE), UOW likely has some top-up for good students (the max number of such students at any point of time is capped at 2 or 3 with the top-up amount of AUS$500 or THB10,850 per student per month) during their two years in Thailand. The selection of such students will be jointly decided by both AIT and UOW.
