13.3 Environmental education measures
The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) provides local education programmes and public-facing learning activities on climate change risks, impacts, mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction, and early warning—delivered through formal degree offerings and community-oriented seminars and events. These efforts give students, professionals, and the wider public practical knowledge and tools to address climate challenges in the region.
One core example is AIT’s Climate Change and Sustainable Development (CCSD) program, which offers certificate, master’s, and doctoral pathways focused on low-carbon and climate-resilient development. The curriculum includes courses such as “Climate Change Impacts, Vulnerability and Adaptation,” “Climate Change Mitigation,” “Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk,” and “Adaptation to Climate Change: Policies and Practices,” combining science, policy, and hands-on tools for local adaptation and early-warning applications.
AIT also runs public seminars to broaden community awareness and action. For instance, the 12 January 2024 seminar, “Climate Change: Simple, Serious, Solvable,” led by AIT Board of Trustees member Prof. David I. McLean, brought together researchers, students, and concerned citizens to unpack causes, risks, and practical solutions—reinforcing AIT’s role in outreach and education on climate change across society.
