Background

The purpose of Bangchak Initiative and Innovation Centre at AIT (BIIC@AIT) is to stimulate the establishment and growth of Green technology-based start-up companies and other compatible businesses. By fulfilling this mission, the incubator would contribute to job creation, and provide for enhanced economic health to the region. The structure of this center is comprised of a living laboratory and technological business incubator. The technology business incubator would provide new and emerging technology and compatible businesses with an environment that would support their start-up phase and increase their likelihood of success. Living laboratory will showcases real time project and prototype of sustainable green technologies which can adapt by different stakeholders in their organization. The proposed lab will host in AIT which includes facility space, flexible leases, shared use of common office equipment, direct business assistance and guidance, mentoring, networking to capital, and other technical resources. A network of existing resources in the community would be developed to support incubator client needs. Approximately six to ten clients at a time would be served within the incubator. The facility, proposed at 200 square meters, would include a co-working space and living laboratory. The incubator would be governed by a board of approximately 7-11 members comprised of individuals with a mixture of entrepreneurial and technology experience, representatives of key economic development organizations, and representatives of area higher education institutions.

Objectives of BIIC@AIT:

By incorporating the advantages of both TBI and living lab, we propose Bangchak Initiative and Innovation Center@AIT and its objective is to inculcate entrepreneurship and creation of enterprises on knowledge based innovation specially focused to Green technology.

AIT living lab is a center that brings together resources among AIT’s programs and centers for the developments of following key points.

Working prototype of environmental remediation, waste/water treatment, energy conservation, sustainable energy generation technologies, etc.

Testing and certification of the green technology equipment, consultancy for green technologies, etc.

Use the existing resources of AIT towards a sustainable center.

Innovative ideas which will improve the quality of life of common people

Governance of BIIC@AIT:

The BIIC@AIT shall be governed by a Board of Directors with a minimum of 3 but not exceed 7 members and comprised of AIT President and/or AIT Vice President and BCP President and/or BCP Vice President. Outside invited members should have a mixture of entrepreneurial and technology experience. The Board of Directors will be chaired by AIT President and co-chaired by BCP President. An Executive Director (ED), who is an AIT faculty and principal investigator of this project, will look after the operation of the BIIC@AIT. ED will report directly to the Board of Directors. Along with the Board of Directors, an Advisory Panel, which is a marketing/financial/manufacturing counsellor, to the ED will be comprised of Vice President and/or Manager of BIIC@BCP, invited Deans, and external experts.  An Assistant to ED and supporting staffs will assist the ED and manages all the daily activities of this center. BIIC@AIT will recruit domestically and internationally specific post-doctoral, doctoral and master students to pursue innovative research under the supervision of AIT faculty.
