Invitation to the second seminar of the “Strengthening collaboration network between Thailand and China in the field of environment and sustainable development” Series on Thailand-China’s Collaboration on Sustainable Watershed Development in the context of the “Future Earth” Program and future opportunities. This webinar aims to summarize and report the core research achievements of the “Future Earth ” program and to discuss future collaboration opportunities in the field of sustainable water and watershed management between Thailand and China and extending to the Belt and Road Region. This webinar is going to be held on Friday, 5 August 2022, 09:00 to 11:30 hrs Bangkok Time GMT+7 (Virtual).
China and Thailand are two important developing countries in the Belt and Road Region with different development patterns but the same sustainable development goals. However, both countries are facing environmental pressures and ecological risks due to the rapid and continuous developments of agriculture, industrialization, and urbanization.
Watershed is an important concept which not only regulates a hydrological system but also formulates a socioeconomic and political unit to properly manage the available natural resources. Intensified and unsustainable demand and development of watersheds results in severe deteriorations in land, water, soil, and biota resources today. Sustainable management of watersheds is of great essentials in improving the service of the ecosystem, quality of life of people, and bringing potential economic benefits.
The China-Thailand collaboration on Watershed Sustainable Development in the context of the “Future Earth” program co-funded by the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) and National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) has been initiated since 2017 and achieved productive research outputs through close cooperation of the scientists from the two countries over the past several years.
