August 3, 2022 – The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)- Roorkee, India, marked the completion of one year of the Dual Doctoral Degree Program. Last year, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the two institutions to promote joint academic and research activities.

Stressing the importance of such collaborations for strengthening institutional relationships, AIT President Dr. Eden Woon said, “This joyous day doesn’t just mark a one-year celebration but also embarks on the continuation of the program. When we signed the MoU, we had a vision, and today we have six students in the program; the fruits are beginning to bear.”

“Our AIT community is multicultural, and we have students, alumni, and faculty from different parts of the world, including India. We also have faculties who are alumni from IIT Roorkee, and we look forward to welcoming more students who are willing to pursue Master’s, Ph.D., or dual degree programs here at AIT”, Dr. Woon added.

Thanking all the faculty and staff at AIT and IIT Roorkee for all the work they put into this program, Dr. Woon said, “I am confident this will be a very productive program in the days to come.”

Prof Ajit Chaturvedi, Director IIT, Roorkee, expressed happiness in progress attained by the program and said, “We are keenly looking forward to expanding this cooperation with AIT, and I am assured AIT will continue to support us. I believe this collaboration will become an example for our future partnerships with different institutions.”

“Student enrollment has shown that the program has good visibility and attraction. Now it is our responsibility to support them to complete this degree with outstanding achievements and lay down the footprints for future students,” he added.

AIT – IIT Dual Degree Program offers a preview of the two institutions’ academic strengths and many more possible collaborations. Six students have already been enrolled in the program.

The collaborative program between AIT and IIT, two leading higher education institutions in Asia, offers students a chance to benefit from the expertise and research facilities of both institutions. Students can choose to study any of the academic programs available at AIT and IIT and will be awarded two separate doctoral degrees for one thesis completed. By studying at AIT in Thailand for four semesters and at IIT Roorkee or IIT Kanpur in India for three semesters, students can save the fees of three semesters waived by the host and partner institution.
