AIT Team attends UKRI GCRF Living Deltas Hub Annual Meeting in Can Tho, Vietnam

AIT team has attended the Annual Meeting of the UKRI GCRF Living Deltas Hub organized in Can Tho, Vietnam, from 12-16 September 2022. The meeting was organized to discuss the ongoing progress of the project work packages and to set the future roadmap for the hub to make climate-resilient deltas.

The team comprising of Associate Prof. Dr. Indrajit Pal (Co-PI, Living Deltas Hub), Dr. Anirban Mukhopadhyay (Senior Research Associate and Affiliated Faculty, DPMM), and Ms. Neshma Tuladhar (DPMM Research Scholar) showcased the ongoing research activities and outputs in the Ganga Brahmaputra Meghna delta in India and Bangladesh during the meeting. During the five-day meeting, the team also showcased several posters of their current research and policy-related outputs. 

Dr. Indrajit Pal served as the Chair for the launch event of the Delta Dialogue Series titled, ‘Delta Systems: Vulnerability, Risk and Resilience. Dr. Pal highlighted the global perspectives on Delta landscapes, emerging issues and concerns in the deltas in South and Southeast Asia, potential delta stressors, and key concerns of the deltas waiting to be addressed, setting the baseline for the panel discussion. The panel discussion chaired by Dr. Pal highlighted the primary issues like delta voice representation, contributions of large consortia and networks like the hub to address the risks of Asian deltas, learnings we should consider for improving the resilience of deltas in the face of multiple risks and threats.

Living Deltas Hub is a five-year research project (2019-2024). It is among the 12 global research hubs awarded by UKRI, UK, with the overarching aim to safeguard delta futures through more resilient communities and sustainable development. AIT Team is co-leading the WP2 Delta SES Characterization and Risk Assessment funded by UKRI and GCRF.
