Honorable Minister of Higher Education of Maldives and AIT Officials Discuss Collaboration Opportunities for Students

April 25, 2023 – Honorable Minister of Higher Education, Republic of Maldives, H.E. Dr. Ibrahim Hassan, and the Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to the Kingdom of Thailand, H.E. Mr. Mohamed Jinah, paid a visit to Professor Kazuo Yamamoto and met with AIT officials on 25 April 2023.

During the meeting, the delegates discussed possible research and collaboration areas and academic prospects at AIT for Maldivian students. 

President Kazuo Yamamoto expressed his enthusiasm for this opportunity to seek further collaboration and to make a concrete plan. He mentioned that AIT is making programs student-centered, which can be customized easily in the future depending on the need for skills and knowledge.

Honorable Minister of Higher Education, Republic of Maldives, H.E. Dr. Ibrahim Hassan, expressed his delight in visiting AIT, seeing its work, and understanding its links with the industry. He highlighted focused areas of collaboration such as food technology, renewable energy, water, and aquaculture and expressed interest in exploring additional potential areas for cooperation. He also mentioned that Maldives has a good history with AIT from the “waste to wealth program.”

Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to the Kingdom of Thailand, H.E. Mr. Mohamed Jinah, said that the facilities at AIT are impressive, and they look forward to their students gaining knowledge and collaborating with AIT. He expressed that the partnership looks promising and assured total commitment.

AIT officials, including Prof. Shobhakar Dhakal, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Prof. Dieter Trau, Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology and Director of Entrepreneurship Center; Prof. Abdul P. Salam, Dean of the School of Environment Resources and Development; Prof. Thammarat Koottatep, Co-Director, GWSC; Professor Anil K. Anal, Department of Food, Agriculture, and Bioresources; Mr. Fazle Karim Director (Programs) and Md. Zakir Hossain,  Business Development Director from AIT Extension; Mr. Karma Rana, Institute Secretary; Dr. Tatchai Pussayanavin, Visiting Faculty at EEM; Mr. Shawn P. Kelly, Executive Director of OIPA; Dr. Sumana Shrestha, Director of International Affairs and Mr. Sanjeet Amatya, Director of Public Affairs; were also present at the meeting.
