21 Feb 2024: The delegation from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) visited the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) in Cagayan de Oro City on 21 February.

During their visit, Prof. Sangam Shrestha, Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology, and Prof. P. Abdul Salam, Dean of the School of Environment, Resources and Development took the opportunity to present the academic programs and ongoing initiatives within their respective schools. Their insights shed light on the innovative approaches and cutting-edge research being pursued at AIT, sparking engaging dialogue and knowledge exchange with USTP.

Dr. Ambrosio Cultura III, President of the USTP University System, led the session, accompanied by Dr. Lory Liza Bulay-og, Vice President for Global Affairs, and Atty. Dionel Albina, Chancellor at USTP-CDO Campus. The delegation comprised vice-chancellors, college deans, and heads of research centers from USTP.

The meeting explored numerous possibilities, including collaborative research projects that go beyond borders and envisioning initiatives to build capacity and empower future generations.  Dual degree programs and exchange programs offering students a global perspective and a competitive edge in their academic pursuits were discussed. Moreover, the conversation extended to scholarship opportunities and community engagement initiatives, underscoring a holistic approach to academic collaboration that extends beyond the confines of traditional academia.

As the meeting reached its conclusion, it became evident that the bonds forged between AIT and USTP were not merely transactional but rooted in a shared vision of advancing knowledge and driving societal impact. This meeting not only reinforced the existing Memorandum of Understanding but also laid the groundwork for deeper collaborative efforts between AIT and USTP.

The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) is a state university established on August 16, 2016, by virtue of Republic Act 10919 through the amalgamation of the Mindanao University of Science and Technology (MUST) in Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental and the Misamis Oriental State College of Agriculture and Technology (MOSCAT) in Claveria, Misamis Oriental.

Adhering to its general mandate to primarily provide advanced education; higher technological, professional, and advanced instruction, and advanced research and extension work, required for global competitiveness, the university envisions becoming a nationally recognized S&T University providing the vital link between education and the economy. As the university fulfills this mandate, it moves from within its immediate context and toward its larger international environment, as the first and only national university of science and technology in the country. It will operate such that it will have seamless knowledge and collaboration with its stakeholders in the private and public sectors, the labor market, business, and industry.
