8 Feb, 2024: Dr. Anish Ghimire has joined the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) as an Assistant Professor in the Environmental Engineering and Management Program, at the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Change, School of Environment, Resources and Development.
Dr. Anish received his Ph.D. in Environmental Technology, from an Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctoral Program, Environmental Technologies for Solids, Soil, and Sediments (ETeCoS3) awarded by the University of Cassino and Southern Lazio, Italy, University of Paris-Est, France, and UN-IHE Delft Institute for Water Education, the Netherlands (2015); Master of Engineering in Environmental Engineering and Management from Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand (2012); and Bachelor of Technology in Environmental Engineering from Kathmandu University, Nepal (2009).
Dr. Ghimire has research interests in Water and Wastewater Treatment Processes; Centralized and Decentralized Sanitation; Resource Recovery using Anaerobic Digestion, Dark Fermentation, and Photo Fermentation; Life Cycle Assessment; and Climate Resilience Assessment of WASH systems. Dr. Anish has consulting experience related water and wastewater treatment projects, solid waste management, and environmental assessment of infrastructure projects. Dr. Anish has taught diverse graduate and undergraduate courses in Environmental Science and Engineering in Nepal.
Dr. Anish is engaged in various research projects such as:
- Biohydrogen and biomethane production using food waste and agricultural biomasses like rice straw.
- Physico-chemical and biological treatment of landfill leachate
- Life cycle assessment of solid waste and wastewater management systems.
- Assessment and modeling of GHG emissions from sanitation systems
- Assessment of climate resilience of WASH systems
