Professors Joyashree Roy and Nguyen Thi Kim Oanh Appointed as Distinguished Professors

Professors Joyashree Roy and Nguyen Thi Kim Oanh have been appointed as Distinguished Professors of the Asian Institute of Technology. This appointment signifies their continued commitment to advancing the work of the Institute through their expertise and contributions to research.

Professor Joyashree Roy currently serves as the Founder Director of the South and South East Asia Multidisciplinary Applied Research Network on Transforming Societies of Global South (SMARTS). Previously, she held the position of Bangabandhu Chair Professor at AIT from 2018 to 2022. Prof. Roy’s expertise spans economics, sustainable development, sustainability transition, resource and energy economics, environmental economics, and natural resource accounting, with a focus on addressing challenges such as climate change.

Professor Nguyen Thi Kim Oanh has been a faculty member of the School of Environment, Resources, and Development faculty since 1997. With over 35 years of experience in research, education, consultancy, and capacity building, Prof. Kim Oanh is internationally recognized for her work on air pollution and climate in Asia, particularly within ASEAN countries. Her areas of expertise encompass air quality management, PM2.5 and ozone air quality, climate and air quality co-benefit, short-lived climate pollutants, air pollution meteorology, and the monitoring and control of persistent organic pollutants.
